Just Playing...

Did you ever have one of those days when you had a list a mile long of things you needed to get done, but just couldn't fathom doing it? Yeah, today was like that. After a particularly grueling day at work yesterday, I woke this morning not feeling like doing anything "productive," so I put aside all the things that I "needed to do" and just allowed myself to do the only thing I felt like doing~ which was to play in clay. Putting bears aside for the time being, I've decided to start trying to make wolves. Here's the first one~

Which turned into two~

Which turned into three!

Then I tried to go a bit bigger...

Running low on clay, I went hollow & stuffed w/ paper for support.

Eventually it turned into this rather abstract wolf-form. Though it looks a little fox like, and the ears more than a little cat like!

The whole wolf family!

It's funny~ when doing animal heads I've noticed there is a very fine line between wolf, bear, fox, cat, dog, anteater, seal, cow, pig... you name it. The wolf pup heads have gone through some of those transitions, and I'm sure you can see the resemblance to at least 2 of the animals mentioned! They were really fun to make though, and I really needed that today.

Careful, Becky, your clay seems to be birthing more clay! Soon your wolves will be denning in your tiny house, and you'll have to move into your car with the dogs. Sorry - couldn't resist... I'm glad you decided to put the list away and renew your spirit instead!

Becky, I have noticed how close many four legged mammals resemble each other. How about seals and dogs? seems like they are interchangeble except for the leg/ paw vs flipper thing. Interesting work you are doing and your reflections as well

That's what lists are for - so you can set the work aside feeling good that you won't forget to do it. some other day.

Nice - I like that you're expanding your creations and branching off into wolves. Those young'uns in that last shot look like they're ready for some serious play !

Have a great week Becky.

We all have our own ways of clearing the brain. Yours is fun for all of us. You in the doing...and we in the looking!

So glad you had a fun clay day! Wolves and dogs are very closely related and foxes and cats are not too different, so I can see how their heads could look a like, But your wolves look like wolves to me, and that is a fox for sure :-).
I have sent at least 3 emails this week, you are not getting them for some reason :-(, so I am calling...

Becky, sandy is right, your day was very productive as you made such a lovely wolf family!! Centering mon, cubs look very happy. I smiled. When I don't feel like doing anything, I lie on sofa and watch favorite movie eating chocolate.

Love the little family of wolves, Becky. My son-in-law just started teaching an evening pottery/ceramics class at our local YMCA.
