Our backpacking loop was short but sweet~ I'll take 3 days in the backcountry over none any time! Here are some photographs of our last day of hiking~
Large snow field near Evelyn Lake.
Morning sunlight on frozen ponds... yes, it froze during the night at our high camp, though daytime temps were perfect!
Evelyn Lake outlet looking toward still snow covered peaks~
Evelyn Lake reflections.
Saying goodbye to Evelyn Lake,
and Hello to Fletcher Lake... a great spot for a lunch break!
Beginning the descent, looking back toward Vogelsang & Fletcher Peaks.
Further down the trail... it is always amazing to me how quickly the scenery changes in just a few miles!
Looking down towards Tuolumne Meadows... we still had a ways to go to get to the thickly forested area in the distance.
Made it! Our last section of the hike took us back along the Tuolumne river. It was a great trip, and so nice to be up there again. I am always overcome with a sense of gratitude spending time in the Sierra. It is hard to explain, but I think John Muir describes it perfectly when he says "Going to the Mountains is going home..."

Fantastic shots. Travel photos thanks to you wonderful nature. I have always admired from a distance your beautiful mountains. I have a book about your national parks. Many greetings and wishes you a wonderful experience Peter.
Thanks for sharing these tremendous shots of your wonderful trip.....Since my illness I have not managed to get back out on a backpacking trip.....your photos have certainly spurred me on...Perhaps I will fit a trip in when I have cycled back from Gibraltar.

Becky, I really enjoyed this series. You presented beautifully. I would like to be up my the frozen pond right about now.
How many years have you been hiking there?
Love that third shot--there is something about running water that just grabs at my heart. Thank you for taking us along on this beautiful trip, Becky.
I surely have loved tagging along with you on this hike. I learned about snow cups! and my favorite shot of today's post is the third - that stream is beautiful and I'd be sad to leave that spot. Evelyn Lake reflections are amazing. thanks for taking me home, Becky
What a wonderful time you must be having. That last photo is just so peaceful looking.
Stunning photos! I could almost feel how cold that water is! So glad you got some time there.
xoxo
Those photos are stunning! I cooled off looking at that snow! You are such a cool aunt!
What wonderful photographs of an amazing place! When did you go there? Looking at the snow made me actually feel a few degrees cooler LOL
I always felt at home in the Mountains - there's something about their strength and energy that pulls me in.
Here we have a hot (august) summer.
Thank you for this wonderful trip!
My best regards from Romania!
Lovely photos, Becky...I personally would take the cool mountains over a hot beach anyday!
Yes, I definitely feel that way about "my" mountains. You'll want to remember these chilly images when you're back home. Those high mountain shots are wonderful, Becky.
You're safely back then, I take it. Putting away the bear-proof container till the next time.
How did you get it open?
All I can say is wow - gorgeous scenery, and not a McDonalds in sight !! Nor hordes of people or cars. You captured the back country so well Becky ! I understand your quote completely.
Oh I miss the Sierra seeing these photos, what a great trip you are having, clean crisp air and water and all that snow, so refreshing.
It sounds and looks as though you had an amazingly wonderful time. Amazing also how much snow is still about. Makes me wonder what next winter will bring. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos!
Had to come back for another quick peek. Love that header ! (did I miss it last time ?)
